Sandy Point is a long right-hand point break near Visakhapatnam that peels over a mix of rock ledge and sand. The rights are mellow and crumbly, and they run for such a distance that jelly legs are more or less guaranteed by the time you kick out. There can be some current, but on the whole it stays an easy, approachable spot. Well up the point, the inside reforms are a favourite with kids riding wooden planks, while the cleaner walls set up further outside.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from southwest through north to northeast (SW-N-NE), and it comes together best on a south swell. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and being moderately consistent, you'll catch rideable days here without expecting it to fire every time.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest offshore wind to groom the faces. The point can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly wave for beginners, with those long, forgiving rights giving you plenty of room to find your feet. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
