Savu Left surf guide

Savu Left is located on Savu Island, which is the largest island with a population of around 30,000 people. This spot is pretty remote and not really set up for western tourists, so getting there requires boat access only. The main channel leading into the port town of Seba is where you'll find Savu Left. Itโ€™s a spot that can serve up some decent waves, but you wonโ€™t find it in the usual tourist guides.

The waves at Savu Left break over dead coral, which can get heavy at times, especially when the swell comes from the west or southwest. You'll want to aim for swell sizes around 3 feet (about 1 meter) for the best action. The waves tend to have hollow sections, making it a nice ride if the conditions are right. For optimal results, the preferable wind direction is southeast, and the spot works across low, mid, and high tides. This is generally a spot for intermediate surfers due to the nature of the reef and the usual wave conditions.

While you're out there, keep an eye out for urchins hidden in the coral, as they can be a bit of a nuisance. There are also some other potential lefts between the harbor and the exposed outside reef, so if you have the chance, explore those as well. Overall, Savu Left can dish out some fun surf, but be prepared for a bit more adventure due to the remoteness and local vibe.
