Overview
Scheveningen Noord is the best-known surf spot in Holland, a stretch of small jetties tucked beside a huge harbour wall. That wall shelters the lineup from southwest wind and forms a handy paddling-out channel. It often lacks power and tends to close out, which is why longboarders love it here. Waves break over sand and peel both left and right off the jetties and beach.
When It Works
The spot catches just about every swell, working from southwest to north (SW-N), with a north (N) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.5 m / 5 ft. Consistency is good, so there's usually something rideable, and it's a solid break by local standards.
Wind and Tide
Scheveningen Noord breaks through the whole tide, but high tide is the pick. The workable wind window runs from east through south to west-southwest (E-S-WSW), and the cleanest surf comes on a southeast (SE) offshore wind. Both rising and falling tides can deliver.
Local Tips
This is an approachable, beginner-friendly break. Expect a busy lineup, even on the smallest days, shared with every kind of water user, so pick your peak and be patient. Any localism tends to be isolated. Keep an eye on the smaller jetties, which get covered at high tide.
Access
There's plenty on hand: restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, a surf shop, and camping nearby. Parking is paid, with metered spaces, roadside options, and a car park, and it turns into a lively scene in summer. A webcam lets you check it before you go.
