Sebastian Inlet is a sand-bottomed right that breaks alongside the long jetty guarding the man-made entrance to the Indian River. It carries a long, storied history and remains one of the best-known waves on Florida's Space Coast, rating as a genuinely good spot when it lines up.
When It Works
The break draws swell from north through east-northeast to southeast (N-ENE-SE), with northeast (NE) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, sending rights peeling off the sand near the jetty. Expect the most action across spring, autumn, and winter, and count on moderately consistent surf rather than something that fires every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind, and note that the jetty offers handy shelter from south and southeast winds, adding a few extra rideable days here. The peaks break through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a shortboard wave that stays approachable for beginners on the smaller days. As a destination spot pulling surfers from across the state, the lineup gets very busy when it's on, though the atmosphere stays friendly, and a little humility and respect go a long way. Keep an eye out for sharks, man-o-war, and rocks in the lineup near the jetty.
Access
The Sebastian Inlet State Recreation Area sits right at the break, with a large car park and paid parking (around $8 daily). You'll also find restrooms, showers, camping, and a surf shop on hand.
