Shark Hole surf guide

Shark Hole, also known as Secret or Hualohilho, is located just past the headland from Lagundri. It's not the most popular spot, which means you won't usually find a crowd here. You'll need to take a two-hour walk from Sorake beach to get to it, but the effort is often rewarded with some solid surf. The place has its own unique vibe and is generally regarded as an average left reef that sometimes surprises you with good waves.

This surf spot does best with a south-west swell, but it can handle swells coming from the south or west as well. It works well at various sizes, starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters). Being a reef break, Shark Hole can serve up some barrels right at take-off, followed by a few fast sections. If the swell is big enough, you might get racy waves that lead into easier shoulders and deeper water. This spot is best suited for intermediate surfers, so it's a good chance to sharpen your skills.

When planning your session, keep in mind that the ideal wind direction is east, and you can surf during low, mid, or high tides. If you're looking for a change of pace, the nearby beachbreak peaks around Pantai Walohiu can also offer some decent right-handers as you wrap around the curve. Overall, Shark Hole can be a hidden gem on its day if you're up for the trek.
