Shelley Beach - KZN SA surf guide

Shelley Beach, located near Port Shepstone in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is known as a beachbreak that's pretty average overall. It's best surfed in summer when the conditions are a bit more favorable. There are some waves to catch, particularly a right off the ski-boat launch area and another right around the headland, often referred to as MK's.

The optimal swell direction for Shelley Beach is Southeast, but you can also find waves with swell coming from the Northeast and Southwest. This spot can handle swell sizes starting from 1ft (about 0.3 meters). The waves break over sand and you can catch both left and right waves. For the best experience, aim for wind coming from the Northwest and surf during low, mid, or even high tide. It's a decent spot for beginners who are looking to practice their skills and find their rhythm in the surf.

Apart from the surf, Shelley Beach is known to be the home beach of Heather Clark, a notable surfer. If you're into golfing, there’s a golf course nearby, and don’t forget to check out the biggest Shell Museum in South Africa while you're in the area.
