Skaymat surf guide

Skaymat is a unique surf spot located a bit off the beaten path. You’ll need some effort to reach it, which includes following a wadi road to a fishing village and then taking a long walk to the surf point. This spot isn’t super easy to find, but if you're willing to put in the effort, you might just be rewarded. It only breaks during bigger swells, so timing your trip is important to catch it at its best.

The waves at Skaymat can be decent if conditions are right. The optimal swell direction is Northwest, but it can also handle swells coming from the West and North as well. The spot works well with swell sizes starting from around 2ft (about 0.6 meters). The waves break over an uneven reef and sand, and you'll mainly find right-hand point breaks here. The preferred wind direction is Northeast, and you can surf during low, mid, or high tides. It's a spot that suits intermediate surfers best, as you'll need some skills to navigate the conditions.

This surf spot can be inconsistent and is only epic a few times during the winter. If you’re planning a visit, you might want to take note of other surfers' experiences, as some protective expats tend to frequent this area for the waves. It’s definitely not a guarantee for waves every day, but when it’s on, you can score some quality rides.
