Overview
Stompneus is a left-hand point and the first break on the north side of the Vredenburg Peninsula. Waves break over a mix of rock ledge and sand, and the spot sits in a wild, remote stretch of coast that hides a handful of secret setups like Pastures and Heaven & Hell. It doesn't quite match E-Bay, but it draws on the same kind of big swell to come alive.
When It Works
Stompneus takes swell from southwest through west, with southwest (SW) the best direction. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and like the bigger names nearby it wants a solid swell to break well. The point has two personalities: an outside reef that favours lower tide and an inside setup on higher tide. Consistency is a little hit-or-miss, so it's worth timing your paddle-out to a good window.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. It comes in on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. The inside high-tide setup is more forgiving and can even hold up in west winds when the outside reef won't.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
Access is the main challenge here. Getting in reliably really needs a 4WD and a local guide who knows the way.
