Overview
Sunglow Pier is a pier break that breaks both left and right over sand. Like most pier setups it takes all swells, so there's usually something to ride when waves are running.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from south to north, and northeast swell is the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and will handle a bit of size, though the bigger the swell gets, the stronger the current runs. It doesn't break as often as the inlet to the south, so it pays to catch it on the days it's actually on.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest offshore wind. The break works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. It's best at high, on the side of the pier opposite the swell direction.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-level wave, but it draws a keen young local crew and it's always crowded when it breaks, so expect a busy lineup once the waves show up.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus restrooms, showers, a surf shop, and lifeguard cover close at hand.
