Overview
Supertubes is a left-hand point break in Northland that reels over uneven reef and sand. It lives up to the name: a steep drop into a deep pit that opens into a speed wall you can carve down toward the Mukies. It's a top-quality wave.
When It Works
It draws swell from southwest through west, with southwest the best match. Expect a workable wave from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It breaks consistently, so there are plenty of chances to catch it on.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south offshore wind. It works through low and mid tide, and the lower tides keep it peeling, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one is for expert surfers only. The drop, the rip, and the shallow rocks all take some negotiating, so it's no place to be out of your depth. Expect a moderately busy lineup on the good days.
Access
There's a car park with free parking.
