Overview
Takegashima is a right-hand reef break that peels over uneven reef between the cliffs and the harbour wall. It sucks hard at take-off, with bold, exposed rocks to watch before the wave lines up into long walls running toward the harbour channel.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from east through southeast, with southeast swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and is moderately consistent, so expect worthwhile windows rather than waves on tap.
Wind and Tide
Takegashima only breaks on higher tide, once the nasty rocks between the cliffs and the harbour wall are safely covered. Stick to mid and high water, with a rising tide the better call. Look for southwest offshore wind to clean it up.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, along with paid and roadside options nearby. To reach the lineup, jump in from the steps or tetrapods in the harbour.
