Three's and Four's surf guide

Surf: Threes and Fours are a fair way from the beach, but this does little to dampen the crowd that rate Threes as one of the go to spots in a good S swell. Speed runs into some hollow sections end in a defined channel and then it’s an easy paddle back out. Fours is more sectiony, with some easier lefts heading towards Kaisers. Environment: Experienced surfers only. Surf: General: Often considered slightly superior to Four's, Three's can really turn on during a solid south swell, offering up clean, racy righthanders that can barrel quite nicely. As with all of Waikiki's surf spots, Three's can get crowded with all types of surfers, from beginner to ultra-advanced -- especially the latter when the waves are good. Unlike nearby Four's, however, Three's has a deep channel at the wave's end that often makes for clean trips back out to the lineup. Tides: Medium Size: Head high-2X overhead Wind: Calm or offshore from NW to E, with NE straight offshore. Swell: Anything from the SE to SW, but usually from the S to SW. Bottom: Reef Paddling: Long paddles to and from beach, but not bad once you're out there. Spot Rating: Usually a mellow and user friendly wave, but gets good when a solid swell is running. Access: Located in front of the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel between Pops and Four's. Crowds: Crowd Factor: Always crowded when its waist high or bigger, but early bird gets the worm sometimes. Local Vibe: Usually mellow. Humility and respect appreciated. Environment: Clean for the most part, but most of Hawaii's population lives on the South Shore of Oahu. Tons of people. Hazards: Reef, currents. Season: Summer. From around April through October.
