Overview
Timber Cove is a right-hand reef break tucked into the north end of the cove, set in rocky surroundings that reward surfers happy to pick their way around the reef.
When It Works
This is a fickle spot that really only comes alive on big northwest swells, so the best sessions tend to land on the sunny days between winter storms. It draws swell from west to north (W-N) and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean it up. The wave favours low tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Timber Cove suits intermediate surfers rather than beginners. Plenty of rock hazards mean you'll want to be comfortable in the water and reading the reef before you paddle out.
Access
Getting in means a steep lane down through the privately-owned Timber Cove Campground & Boat Landing, where you pay a small day-use fee at the booth. There's a car park with paid parking.
