Todos Santos / Killers surf guide

Todos Santos, commonly known as Killers, is a surf spot located on the northwest corner of Todos Santos island in Northern Baja. Famous for its intense waves, this location draws surfers from all over. It’s not just the waves that get attention; the ride to get there is part of the adventure, as you'd need to take a boat in from the harbor in Ensenada to reach this remote area.

The surf here really starts to fire up when the swell hits 10 to 20 feet (3 to 6 meters), primarily from the northwest and west directions. The wave breaks over a mix of rock and sand, creating a powerful reef and point setup. When it's on, the waves can be shifty and unpredictable, filled with weird boils and bumps that challenge even experienced surfers. It’s a right-hand wave that prefers a low to mid tide and glassy conditions caused by light east winds. This spot is definitely not for beginners; it’s best suited for expert surfers who are comfortable paddling out in strong currents and handling serious waves.

The surf season generally runs from November to March, but be prepared for some early mornings, as the conditions can blow out by midday. The crowd factor can get intense with a dedicated group of locals and regulars who know the spot well, so showing respect and keeping a friendly vibe is key. Overall, if you're up for the challenge, Killers offers a unique experience but requires skill and preparation to tackle its fierce waves and rocky bottom.

Forecast Cheat Sheet

Short on time? Focus on wave energy. It’s the best single metric to gauge how big and powerful the waves will be.

Click any table cell to jump to that forecast hour. The map will update with forecast arrows, so you can see if wind and swell direction are lining up.

Use the table sidebar to switch units for height and speed.

Log your surf sessions to compare forecasts with real sessions and sharpen future predictions.

On the map, click a metric label to bring that arrow to the front — handy when arrows overlap.

Models and Updates

Surfnerd blends multiple global and local wind and swell models using advanced interpolation and spatial techniques to create an "ensemble" forecast. Forecasts are refreshed hourly.

Surf Predictions

Our AI-driven algorithm scores surf quality, shown by green, orange, and gray dots. Each forecast hour is rated for wind, swell, and tide quality, then combined into an overall score. Here’s the scale:

Perfect
Good
Average
Bad or No Data

Session logs also feed the algorithm — the more you log, the smarter your forecasts get.

With Surfnerd, no more "you should have been here yesterday"

Wind certainty

Wind certainty tells you how much the weather models agree on the forecast.

  • High certainty: Models agree closely; forecast is reliable.
  • Medium certainty: Some disagreement; conditions may shift slightly.
  • Low certainty: Models diverge; treat forecast with caution.

We calculate this by comparing wind speed, gust and direction from multiple models (like GFS, ECMWF, Arome, and Harmonie) and seeing how closely they match. They are weighted, meaning that some models count more than others, depending on how good they are for a certain spot.
