Tula is a coral reef break in a traditional American Samoan village on Tutuila, and it serves up both lefts and rights over live coral. By Tutuilan standards it offers some genuinely pleasant surf, so it is worth a look when the setup lines up.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northwest through northeast, with a north swell the best match. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so you want a bit of size on it before paddling out. Consistency is moderate, but the days when it comes together can be rewarding. The classic call is simple: when there is any north swell running, this is a good time to check Tula.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind, which also happens to be the wind direction that pushes north swell toward the coast. The reef works on mid and high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly reef, best suited to surfers comfortable riding over live coral. Expect a fairly quiet lineup, so there is usually room to spread out and pick off waves.

There is free roadside parking close to the break, so getting in and out is easy.
