Overview
Uchizuma is a small beach break that peels over sand and offers some shelter from north winds. It closes out once the surf pushes past head high, so it is one to save for the smaller days. It also works as a handy indicator for what might be firing on the nearby islands off Mugi; getting out there means renting a boat, but it can be worth the effort, since Teba is rumoured to hold a long right.
When It Works
The bank picks up anything from the east through to the south (E-S), with a southeast (SE) swell the best match. You will find both lefts and rights coming off the sand, and it is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is moderate, so time your session for when a decent E-S swell is running.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean it up. The beach can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly wave for beginners, with a sandy bottom and plenty of room to find your feet. Expect a busy lineup when it is working.
