Overview
Waikiki is a mellow right-hand point just south of the port in Mar del Plata, and it carries some real history: this is where the first Argentinean surf session went down back in 1963, when the spot was still known as Kikiway. The surf club of that name is around to this day. The wave itself is nothing dramatic, a mushy, broken-up right that shoulders off the point into deep water, but it makes for a friendly, forgiving ride.
When It Works
The point breaks over a mix of rock ledge and sand and peels as a right. It draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with a northeast swell the best match. Waikiki is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, though it won't hold much more size than that. Consistency is moderate, so it pays to keep an eye out for the windows when everything lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest offshore wind to clean things up. The point can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly spot and a solid pick for longboarders chasing a small, fun right. The lineup tends to run busy, with plenty of soft-tops and longtime regulars who have the place dialed, so expect company when it's on.
Access
There's a surf school and a surf shop on hand, along with restrooms and lifeguard cover. Parking is easy, with a car park offering free parking as well as paid and roadside options.
