Witzig's surf guide

Witzig's is a surf spot located at the southern end of Point Sinclair, a little south of Penong on the Eyre Peninsula. It's named after Paul Witzig, a filmmaker and journalist who helped put this area on the surf map. This spot is well-known among surfers, but it's not for everyone. You'll want to come here prepared, as this spot isn't really a friendly beginner's spot. The area is known for its powerful waves and often punishing conditions.

At Witzig's, you're looking at a strong left-hand break that really comes alive on a moderate S-SW swell. The optimal swell direction is from the south, and it can also handle swells coming from the southeast and southwest. The spot is primarily a reef break, with some sections over sand, but be cautious as the water can be pretty shallow and there's a lot of movement down below. Witzig's works well with swell sizes around 3ft (about 1 meter) and offers a nice long run when everything lines up right. Eastern winds are preferred, and low to mid tide works best for this spot. Overall, this is definitely a place where only experienced surfers should drop in.

If you decide to hit Witzig's, make sure you're comfortable in the water and have solid skills. The waves can get heavy, and the takeoffs can be intense. Always keep an eye on the conditions and be ready for some powerful surf. This is not the spot for the unprepared, so if youโ€™re an expert looking for a challenge, it could be worth the trip.
