Overview
Witzig's is a powerful left at Point Sinclair, the most southern break along this remote stretch of coast. It takes its name from Paul Witzig, one of the first to scope out the area. This is a highly exposed outside break over uneven reef and sand, with dredging takeoffs and lines that peel for long distances when everything lines up.
When It Works
Witzig's draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south (S) swell the best match. It really comes to life on a moderate south to southwest swell, when the wave lines up and runs a long way. The reef is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it stays consistent enough to see plenty of waves.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. It works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one is strictly for expert surfers. The reef is very shallow with a lot of water moving, so don't paddle out unless you're confident in your abilities. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
Getting here is a mission: from Penong, head 21 km / 13 mi south down a white lime dirt road to Point Sinclair. There's camping at the spot and a car park with free parking.
