Wye River sits just along from Kennett on a laid-back stretch of coast, mixing average rivermouth beachbreaks with a righthand point known as Baldy. Baldy has sadly lost the sand that once let it peel for hundreds of meters, so these days you're mostly working with the beaches breaking over sand. It's a relaxed spot with a pub overlooking the beach and campgrounds nearby.
When It Works
The beaches pick up swell from the south through southwest, and south (S) is the direction that lines things up best. It's usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, breaking over sand with both lefts and rights on offer. Consistency is moderate, so you'll get worthwhile windows without it turning on every day, and the banks can be prone to closing out.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean things up. It can work through most of the tide across low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners and improvers finding their feet. Expect a busy lineup when it's on.

There are restrooms, showers, and camping close by, plus a car park with free parking and roadside parking to fall back on.
