Yin Yang is a right-hand reef break on Laamu atoll, the smaller, more exposed atoll just south of Thaa. It breaks over dead coral and has two distinct halves: an outside section sitting in deep water, and an inside section that can hit hard when the swell has size behind it. Thick barrels are the payoff when it lines up.
When It Works
This is the most consistent wave in the area. It draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southwest (SW) the best match, and a strong southeast swell is when it really turns on, thick barrels with an inside section that can be punishing. The working range runs from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. Beyond that, the wind mostly decides which section you surf. A northwest wind blows out the inside and leaves the deep-water outside as the option, though the bowl is worth keeping an eye on. Swing round to southwest and it flips: the outside goes choppy while the inside comes alive. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
