Bundoran - 3D's is a surf spot located to the northeast of the Peak in Bundoran Bay. It’s primarily a spring high tide reef break, known for offering fun left and right barrels over a barely submerged rock. This spot is somewhat popular, especially among bodyboarders and surfers looking for hollow waves. However, it is very shallow and can be dangerous, so you need to stay alert when you're out there.
The waves generally work best with a northwest swell, and they can handle sizes from 5ft to 12ft (1.5m to 3.6m). The left waves tend to be longer with some hollow sections, while the right can be more compact and bowling. It’s essential to note that while it can be fun, the best time to surf here is during high tide, especially when the swell is big. Winds from the southeast are preferable, adding to the surf conditions. Remember, this spot is really suited for expert surfers, as it can be challenging, especially with the varying water movements and steep paddles.
Accessing 3D's can be done by walking across the reef directly from town or by paddling across the bay from the harbor when the waves are bigger. Be prepared for a long paddle back, as water can get really choppy when it’s large. The crowd factor is significant here since it’s one of the most popular waves in Ireland.
