Overview
Tullan Strand at Bundoran is a swell-magnet beachbreak that breaks over sand and throws up both lefts and rights. The southern end has a wedge off the cliff that forms nice peaks, while the shorebreak stays full of learners.
When It Works
The beach is genuinely consistent and draws swell from west to northwest (W-NW), with northwest (NW) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. Big winter swells can scour out the sandbars, and closeouts become common further up the beach.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. It breaks on low and mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
Tullan Strand suits beginners well, with plenty of learners riding the shorebreak. Expect a very busy lineup, especially in August, but the beach is huge, so walk north to find an emptier peak. The rip along the bottom of the cliff doubles as a handy conveyor belt back out. Only experienced surfers should jump off the cliffs; otherwise take the long walk down.
Access
Turn by KFC to reach the car park, which has free parking, with roadside parking also on hand. Facilities include camping, a surf school, and a surf shop.
