Bundoran - Tullan Strand surf guide

Bundoran - Tullan Strand is a well-known surf spot located on the northwest coast of Ireland. It offers a long stretch of sandy beach that attracts surfers of all levels, especially during the summer months. The area can get pretty busy in August, but thanks to the size of the beach, it's usually possible to find a less crowded peak if you walk a bit north. Accessing the beach is straightforward, with parking located near a recognizable landmark, like KFC.

This spot works best with a northwesterly swell and can handle sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) up to larger swells. The waves break over sand, forming both left and right beach breaks, which can be fun for surfers. The low to mid tide is generally preferable for catching quality waves. Big winter swells can lead to some closeouts further up the beach. If you're new to surfing, be mindful as there are plenty of learners taking on the shorebreak.

There's a nice rip along the bottom of the cliff that can help you get back out after catching a wave. If you’re experienced, you might be tempted to jump off the cliffs, but it’s best to take the longer walk down for your safety. It's a spot that brings together local crowds but still has room for everyone, especially if you’re willing to explore a bit.
