120th Street is a sand-bottom break that holds a big swell and ranks among the best spots for hurricane swells. It breaks way out with steep drops and gets hollow, serving up mainly long rights. On a northeast swell it also throws big but short, open lefts.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with northeast (NE) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft. Waves are consistent here, and this is a reliable pick when hurricane swells light up the coast.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to groom the faces. The break can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
It can get crowded on the good days, so expect company in the lineup when it's on. When the swell jumps in size, rips and currents pick up, so be ready to handle moving water.

A lifeguard covers the beach, and there is free roadside parking.
