2nd Street is a beach break that peels both left and right over sand. The wave crumbles and carries a little less power than 17th Street just down the coast, so it never gets hollow, but it still offers a good, workable face.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northeast to east and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It is a wind-dependent spot, so it comes alive only once the right wind fills in.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind, which here does double duty: the wave actually needs a solid 20 mph northeast wind before it starts breaking. It works best on low to mid tide, with a rising tide the better call. Steer clear of high tide, when a nasty backwash sets in.
Local Tips
As across much of the state, the lineup can hold sharks, rips, and jellyfish, so stay aware while you are out there.
Access
There is a surf shop nearby, and you can leave the car at metered spots or along the road.
