Aberdeen - Beach Surf Forecast Guide

Aberdeen Beach is a sand-bottomed beach break running for roughly three miles north from the mouth of the River Dee. A line of groynes, built to slow beach erosion, shapes the banks along the way, and sandbars also gather near the mouth of the River Don at the northern end of the Esplanade. Waves peel both left and right, and while the banks can turn on, the spot rates as below average overall and leans heavily on how the sand is sitting.

When It Works

The banks come alive on swell from the northeast through southeast (NE-SE), with northeast (NE) swell the best match. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Autumn and winter bring the most reliable surf. Because the banks shift and reform around the groynes and the rivermouths, quality swings with the sand from one session to the next.

Wind and Tide

Look for west (W) offshore wind. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a forgiving beach break suited to beginners and intermediates, and it takes just about anything under your feet, from shortboards and fish to longboards, bodyboards, or a bodysurf. The lineup stays quiet and can feel a little reserved. Keep an eye on the groynes and watch for rips and longshore drift, which can be a real problem here.

Access

Free parking is easy to find, including roadside spots along the front. You will also find restrooms and camping nearby.
