Overview
Air Guling is a right-hand reef break tucked into the next bay west of Kuta, reached by a short boat ride. It breaks over live coral, and at low tide the rights trip into a fast inside barrel. When the tide fills in, you can also find short, rippy, hollow lefts at the reef gap in the middle of the bay.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match, and it stays fairly consistent. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. The catch is that both swell and wind need to sit more north than west, so it is rare to score much past 9am. Get there early and you have the best shot at clean conditions.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind. The rights break on low and mid tide, with mid tide the pick and a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Air Guling suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet.
