Airports surf guide

Airports is a surf spot known for its somewhat inconsistent waves, located in a spot that's often overlooked in favor of more popular breaks. While it can deliver decent surf under the right conditions, you'll need a bit of luck to find it firing. It's a place best suited for those who are already comfortable on their boards, so intermediate surfers will generally have a better time here.

The best surf happens with a strong South to Southwest swell, which is the ideal direction for this spot. You'll want to keep an eye on the swell size, as it can handle waves at around 2 feet (0.6 meters) and up. The waves here break predominantly left over dead coral, especially when the wind is blowing from the Northeast. You can catch a decent ride with tide heights ranging from low to high, making it pretty versatile in that department.

While you might catch some good lefts at Airports, keep in mind that the surf crowd can get busy since itโ€™s a popular local spot, and often, boats might head straight to Beacons, which is a couple of hours away. So, if you manage to time it right, you could score some fun sessions here before the more crowded spots claim the attention.
