Overview
Anare is a friendly beachbreak that breaks over sand and serves up both lefts and rights. It may not be an epic setup, but it holds together well, with rights peeling off the harbour wall and into the rivermouth.
When It Works
The break draws swell from north to east (N-E), and it comes together best on a northeast (NE) swell. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and while it is only moderately consistent, it produces rideable waves often enough to be worth a check.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The beach can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable wave that suits beginners, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it is on. The small town fronting the beach is safe and welcoming, with a good hotel and a local board shaper named Prisma if you need a new stick.
