Angourie Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Angourie is a classic New South Wales right-hand point that often ranks among the world's Top 10 waves. It jacks up abruptly over a rock ledge and reels through multiple bending bowl sections and chunky walls, a near-perfect wave that never really lets you relax. The tricky entry and heavy sections mean it rewards experienced surfers who can read each bowl on the fly.

When It Works

Angourie draws swell from northeast through southeast, with east (E) the best match as it hits the reef square on and ups the ante. A big southeast swell rumbles wider but still carries malicious power. The point is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 5.5 m / 18 ft and handles triple overhead, so there is plenty of room at the top end. It is a moderately consistent wave that comes good when the swell lines up.

Wind and Tide

Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. The point breaks through low, mid, and high tide, favouring the lower tides with a rising tide generally the better call, though it can take more water when it is bigger.

Local Tips

This is an expert-only wave, and the lineup is very busy with dedicated regulars whenever it turns on. Jumping off the rocks is a fraught proposition, so paddling out from the beach is the safer option if you do not know the entry. When a north wind is blowing, Anga's Backbeach fires and can even throw up a left off the point.

Access

There is a car park with free parking, along with paid and roadside options nearby. Restrooms and camping round out the facilities.
