Anse à La Gourde is a right-hand reef break reached through a keyhole in the rock. The rights peel off a protruding rock in a structured, predictable way, breaking over dead coral. It is fun and playful when the swell is small, and turns into a more challenging wave once the size picks up.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast (NE) best, though anything from north to east (N-E) will get it going. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, holding its shape across that range while getting more serious toward the top end. It is a consistent spot, so you will find rideable days here more often than not.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind to clean up the face. The wave comes in on mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly wave, and confident intermediates will manage it at most sizes. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is working.
Access
There is free roadside parking nearby, so getting to the water is straightforward.
