Overview
Apelviken is Sweden's most famous windsurfing spot, a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right. It sits among a handful of nearby breaks that tend to be better for surfing, so it's worth knowing what you're paddling into before you commit.
When It Works
The surf here comes alive mainly once the wind drops off, leaving behind some rideable waves. It draws swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW) and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. With gentle sand-bottom peaks in that range, it's a friendly place for beginners to find their feet.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean things up, though the workable wind window runs from south round to the northwest. The beach can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is beginner-friendly terrain, but expect to share the water with windsurf rigs, which are a near-constant presence in the lineup.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking nearby. Facilities are solid, with restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school and shop close at hand.
