Overview
Araçagi is a sand-bottomed beach break near São Luís, the French-influenced capital of Maranhão. São Luís isn't the strongest wave zone, but Araçagi is the safest bet in the area, where the peaks break with more power and shape. Expect both lefts and rights, most often righthanders crumbling down the sandbanks.
When It Works
The break draws swell from north to east (N-E), with northeast (NE) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so there are workable windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) winds to hold it offshore. Araçagi comes in on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The forgiving sandbank peaks make this a good pick for beginners. The lineup stays fairly quiet, and you'll often find rarely anyone out.
Access
There's free roadside parking close to the break.
