Overview
Asturias is a beachbreak with peaks breaking both left and right over sand. It can turn junky, which makes it awkward going for beginners, longboarders and SUPs on the wrong day.
When It Works
This is a consistent spot that picks up swell from east through south. When the swell comes from the southeast to south, Asturias is a fun, easy wave that works for all abilities. An east swell is a different animal, turning it big, hollow and powerful, closer in feel to the Galhetas pointbreak at the southern end. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind out of the west. The bank breaks across low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Asturias is a popular spot, so expect a very busy lineup when it's on. On its easier days it suits beginners well.
Access
Parking is easy, with a car park offering free spaces alongside paid and roadside options. Facilities are solid too: restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school and a surf shop.
