Back Door surf guide

Back Door is a well-known surf spot located right in front of its namesake accommodation. It's a proper right pointbreak that offers a consistent wave experience. The wave barrels over a mix of boulders and sandy areas on its way to the beach, which is about 300 meters away. This spot is popular among local surfers and is often used for contests, making it a reliable choice for those looking to catch some waves.

The wave at Back Door works best with southeast swells but can handle waves coming from the east and south as well. It typically starts to break with swell sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and can provide some solid rides depending on the tide. Low, mid, and high tides can all present good options, although the wave is particularly fun under certain conditions. Intermediate surfers are usually the ones getting the most out of this spot, as it offers some nice, long, crumbling shoulders to carve up.

The preferred wind direction is southwest, which helps to create clean conditions on the wave. As you head a bit further north from the main break, you’ll also find more sand and rock peaks that can add variety to your session. Overall, Back Door can be a decent spot to hit when the conditions align.
