Badezeit Westerland surf guide

Badezeit Westerland is a surf spot located in the popular beach destination of Westerland. This spot features a unique kink in the shoreline that creates some interesting waves, making it a go-to place for surfers in the area. The break is known for its accessibility and is generally filled with surfers looking to catch a good session. It can get pretty crowded, especially when the swell is up.

The surf here works best with a west swell direction, although it can handle swells coming from the south and northwest too. The waves break over sand and boulders, typically offering long lefts and a shorter righthander. It’s suitable for intermediate surfers who are looking to ride waves that generally handle swell sizes around 1ft (0.3 meters) upwards. The preferred wind direction is from the east, and it works best at mid to high tide, giving surfers a solid chance to score some fun rides.

During the summer months from May to September, lifeguards are on duty with a swimming-only policy enforced, which means if it’s crowded, you might want to be extra mindful of the conditions. When conditions are right, you can find some good cover-ups, especially during a big NW or SW swell. Just keep in mind that this spot is often busy when the surf is on, so be ready to share the waves!
