Overview
Barrio, also known as Inside Dako, is a long, fun right that peels out in the channel off Daku Island. General Luna itself sits too sheltered to break, so surfers hop a pump boat across to the reef. The wave runs over live coral, and because the reef's position trims some of the swell size, it comes through slower and over deeper water. That easygoing character is a big part of why it suits surfers still finding their feet on reef.
When It Works
Barrio draws swell from north through east, and an east swell is the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it breaks consistently, so your odds of scoring a rideable day here are good. Expect a right-hander over reef.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind. The reef works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The slower speed and deeper water make Barrio a welcoming spot for beginners getting comfortable on reef. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. If the boats stack up and it gets too crowded, there are a handful of low to mid tide rides across the channel in front of Guyam Island.
Access
Getting out here means grabbing a pump boat from General Luna. If you'd rather stay away from the General Luna crowds, there's cheap, quiet accommodation on Daku itself.
