Baterias Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Baterias is a left-hand point break named after the battery of oil platforms sitting offshore in the near distance. It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand, and sits more exposed to swell and wind than nearby Lobitos, so it can be a good option when other spots are too small.

When It Works

Baterias needs some south in the swell to break at all. It draws swell from south through west (S-W), with a southwest (SW) swell the best match, and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is moderate. At low tide, the point can throw barrel sections and thick, powerful walls, carrying more size and punch than the waves in town. Further up the beach, the wave can spin into fast, spitting barrels along reef-anchored sand, though it is often too fast to make and the rip currents there can be strong.

Wind and Tide

Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind. Baterias can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

The wave suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet.

Access

Reaching the point is a bit of a trek out from El Hueco.
