Overview
Batismo is a right-hand point that peels down a rocky point in Praia das Pombas, breaking over an uneven reef. When a swell is running it throws up long walls the length of the point.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south through southwest (S-SW), with south (S) swell the best match, and a bigger south swell swinging up the east coast is what really wakes it up. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and stays moderately consistent, so you'll find worthwhile windows even if it isn't firing every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind, and pretty much any west wind will do the job. It breaks on low and mid tide, with lower tides favoured and a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Batismo suits intermediate surfers and stays quiet, so you can count on an uncrowded lineup when it's working. On windless days it's worth checking the other side of the headland reef, where a few lefts can show.
