Batu Hiu is a sand-bottomed beachbreak with both lefts and rights, one of a string of beachbreaks along the road between Batu Karas and Pangandaran. Strong currents and onshore winds are common here, and the waves often close out, though the sandbanks tend to come good through the wet season.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west, with a south swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is moderately consistent, with the wet-season sandbanks giving it the cleanest shape.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind to clean it up. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
Batu Hiu suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a quiet lineup on the days it comes together.
