Beachbreak Surf Forecast Guide

Beachbreak is exactly what the name promises: a long stretch of sand that can turn on when the swell is modest, particularly when a few swells are running at once. It pulls in more size than anything around it, which cuts both ways. Once it reaches double overhead the sand can't hold the shape and it closes out. Below that, it's a fun, shifting beachbreak with both rights and lefts, and the paddle out is manageable.

When It Works

Swell arrives from southeast through south to west-northwest, and the sand works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Chest high to overhead is the sweet part of that window, and summer and autumn are the productive months, roughly June through November. Rips run along this stretch, so read the water before you commit.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from north-northeast to east. Tide is forgiving here, with low, mid, and high all in play, though a rising tide is generally the better call.

Local Tips

Bring whatever suits the day. Shortboards, funboards, longboards, and fish all have a place, and the waves suit everyone from beginners through to experts when the size cooperates. The lineup stays quiet, and it can feel a little reserved when other surfers are around.

Access

This is an isolated spot, and 4WD plus camping gear is the sensible approach. Plenty of people try to drive onto the sand, and plenty of them get stuck, so think twice before following a set of tyre tracks. There's a bit of muck here and there, but the beach is mostly clean.
