Benkunqut is a proper left-hand pointbreak that faces due west and breaks over dead coral. The setup peels as a point, so when it lines up you get a long, orderly left rather than a shifting peak.
When It Works
Benkunqut draws swell from south through west (S-W), with southwest (SW) the direction that best fits the point. A more westerly swell tends to wall the wave up, so the cleaner sessions come when there is enough south in the swell to let it peel. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, which gives it a wide working window from small, playful days up to serious size. Consistency is moderate, so it will not fire every day, but the point has plenty of worthwhile windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Because the point faces due west, southeast (SE) wind blows straight offshore and grooms the wave. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Benkunqut suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet, so you can expect room to move and plenty of waves when it is on.
