Overview
Boneyard is a serious right-hander that breaks over a rock reef at the very top of the point, tucked inside a bowl of rocks on the California coast. It is not the friendliest wave around: the surf gets big and the takeoff zone is tight, so it rewards confident, experienced surfers.
When It Works
Boneyard is a reef and point break that draws swell from west to north-northwest and comes alive through autumn and winter. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, holding everything from head-high days up to properly big surf. When the point lines up, it delivers a decent, fun right.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to groom it, with a workable wind window running from east to south. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a shortboard wave best suited to intermediate and expert surfers. The lineup has a friendly feel, though expect it to get busy when the wave is good.
