Borkum surf guide

Borkum is a surf spot located on the North Sea coast of Germany. It's known for its long stretches of beach and relatively consistent waves, making it accessible for surfers of various skill levels. The atmosphere is laid-back, and you'll find plenty of space to set up your gear. The beach is great for those who enjoy a relaxed surf experience away from crowded spots.

The surf conditions here are pretty similar to what you’d find at Norderney. The best waves usually come with northwesterly swells, but it can handle swells from the west and north as well. When it’s firing, Borkum can deliver waves ranging from 2 to 6 feet (around 0.6 to 1.8 meters), but it’s best suited for beginners since the waves predominantly break over sand. The waves can roll in left or right, providing some variety for surfers to enjoy, especially on mid to high tides. Keep an eye on the wind as a southeast breeze is usually what you want for optimal conditions.

If you find the conditions flat, you can check out the indoor wave park that recently opened up in the area. It features a FlowRider setup, which is a fun option for practicing your skills on a bodyboard or even standing up if you’ve got some experience. This can be a good way to keep your surfing game sharp when the ocean isn’t cooperating.
