Borkum is a sandy beach break that peels both left and right, with long stretches of unstabilised beach to explore. Walk the sand and you can find empty peaks sitting in clean, pollution-free water, so it pays to move around until you find a bank that is working.
When It Works
The break draws swell from west through north (W-N), and it comes together best on a northwest (NW) swell. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. Conditions are much like nearby Norderney, and because the outside sand bars are shallow, you generally need a bit more water to bring the waves through.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean things up. The break favours mid to high tide, with a rising tide the better call, since the higher water helps the swell clear those shallow outer bars.

Access
There is a car park with free parking, plus camping close by if you want to stay and wait for a bank to fire. During flat spells, check out the new indoor wavepark, which runs a FlowRider (RowRider) for two riders at a time, bodyboard or stand-up for experienced surfers.
