Boucan is a coral reef break with two very different waves on offer. The left is the fun, dependable option and holds up in swell all the way to 10ft. The right next to it is a gnarlier proposition that only stands up and barrels once the swell gets solid. A little way down the beach there is a second left that comes to life on smaller days. Everything here breaks over dead coral.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southwest (SW) the best match. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, which covers everything from the smaller left down the beach to the right barreling in size. Consistency is good, so the waves show up reliably when there is swell in the water.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Boucan suits intermediate surfers, with the reliable left the more approachable of the two main waves. Expect a busy lineup when it is working.
