Boulders surf guide

Boulders is a well-known surf spot that caters to intermediate surfers looking for a solid left pointbreak. It breaks over a rocky mix of lava and coral heads, providing a unique surfing experience. Located in Samoa, this spot is one of the few pointbreaks in the area and can be quite powerful, holding up well under varying swell sizes.

The wave is strong and capable, handling swells from 0.9 meters (3 ft) up to 6 meters (20 ft). It's best when the swell comes from the southeast, with a preferable wind direction coming from the northeast. On low to mid tides, the wave can be rippable and engaging, although it remains a challenge at all sizes. The ride often starts with a steep drop and leads into fast, hollow sections that can get really fun, especially on good days. Expect moderate crowds when the conditions are firing, as many advanced surfers tend to show up to tackle the bigger swells.

Access is straightforward; you just paddle out from the beach. Keep in mind that you’ll be paddling a lot, especially when the waves are overhead. While the vibe here is pretty relaxed, turning your back to the ocean can be risky, so stay alert. The surfing season runs from May to August, making it a prime time to catch some great waves. Overall, if you’re looking for a solid session, Boulders can be quite worth it, but be prepared for the challenges that come with it.
