Coconuts surf guide

Coconuts is a surf spot located on the tip of a fringing reef. It’s known for its waves that can be world-class but are also quite selective. The location is pretty remote, making it a bit of a trek to get there. Expect stunning views, but also the need for some planning to catch it at the right time.

The waves at Coconuts work best with a south swell, but it can also handle southeast and southwest swells, typically at sizes around 0.6 meters (2 feet). The spot breaks over live coral, creating powerful reef waves that offer solid rides both left and right. When the conditions align with mid to high tide and a north wind, you can definitely enjoy some decent sessions. However, on smaller days, it might be tricky with plenty of close-outs and a sharp, unforgiving reef, making it better suited for experienced surfers.

Getting to Coconuts can be challenging, as it requires a long paddle from nearby resorts. To save energy and ensure a smoother experience, it's a good idea to hire a boat. This spot can be sensitive to the wind and tide, so catching it at its best requires a bit of luck and good timing. There are other wave options along this stretch of reef, depending on the swell size and direction, which can add variety to your surf sessions.
