Overview
Bragar is a left-hand pointbreak tucked into a northeast-facing bay. That aspect is its biggest asset, sheltering the wave from the southwest-to-west gales that hammer this coast. The point sits on the western flank of the bay, running fast over an outside ledge before peeling into the bay for a few hundred metres over a boulder bottom.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through north to northeast (SW-N-NE), with northwest (NW) the direction that lines it up best. It is usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, so it takes plenty of size when a proper groundswell arrives. Consistency is moderate rather than something that fires every session, but the windows are there when the setup comes together.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind, which sits nicely against the bay's northeast aspect. The point can work through most of the tide, and with enough size it holds right through, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is on.
Access
Bragar takes some finding. Drive to the cemetery on the east side of the bay, then follow the grassy track behind the beach and park at the west end. From there, walk out to the point. Getting in and out is tricky because of the rocks. Parking is free, with roadside spaces available.
