Overview
Breakas is a coral reef break sitting right in front of the Breakas Resort, where most visiting surfers stay. It peels both ways: barrelling lefts that suck up hard at the peak before shouldering off, plus some rights, which show up best when there is a bit of west in the swell. When everything lines up it turns into a tube orgy. The reef is live coral, so treat the bottom with respect.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is moderate, so you will get worthwhile windows rather than waves on tap.
Wind and Tide
Wind is the main obstacle here, and glassy days are rare. The move is to wake up before dawn and take the two to three hours of daylight before the trades fill in. Look for north offshore wind. Mid and high tide both work, with a rising tide the better call, and the barrelling lefts want high tide with the trades switched off.
Local Tips
Best suited to intermediate surfers. Locals surf here and have set up the Pango Beach surf shop in the village. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works, which fits the resort out front and the medium consistency.
