Brighton - Wedge is a short, fast, heavy shorebreak that wedges off the pier wall. The waves peel right and break over sand, giving you punchy, quick rides close to shore.
When It Works
The Wedge draws swell from east through south to southwest, with southwest (SW) swell the best match for lining up that wedging peak. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft, so keep an eye out for swell in that window rather than the bigger days.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north (N) offshore wind to hold the shorebreak clean. Tide-wise, low tide is the pick, and a rising tide is generally the better call as it fills back in.
Local Tips
The heavy, wedging shorebreak makes this a favourite with bodyboarders, so expect to share the peak with them when it turns on.
Access
There's parking right at the top of the cliff, so it's an easy spot to check and paddle out from.
